UniSA Sport Social Mixed Netball Competition - RULES

The following rules have been designed for UniSA Sport social competitions. In any cases not covered by these rules, normal netball rules and interpretations will apply. Official rules can be found at http://netball.org/game/the-rules-of-netball
Interpretation of these rules will be at the discretion of the appointed umpires and/or Court Supervisor.
These rules work in conjunction with the UniSA Sport Code of Conduct and Social Sport By-Laws. UniSA Sport may waive or modify these rules to suit any circumstances that may arise.
 

1. Court 

1.1 The game will be played on a regular netball court, 30m long and 15m wide. 


2. Ball  

2.1 The official ball used in all competitions will be a size 5 netball. 

3. Players and Team Composition 

3.1 Team shall consist of minimum five (5) players and maximum twelve (12) players. 

3.2  Team must contain a minimum of 7 players with no more than three (3) male players may be on the court at any time. There is no minimum number of males needed in a team. 

3.3 A maximum of one (1) male player can be in any playing third at any time i.e offense (GS, GA), mid-court (WA, C, WD) or defense (GK, GD). 

3.4 If a team does not have the correct team composition they can play with less players on the court provided their total number of players does not fall below five (5). 

3.5 It is advised that every player signs up as a UniSA Sport Member (this is free to join for UniSA Students and Alumni and a fee of $25 for non-UniSA Students and Alumni) for insurance purposes. 

3.6 All players to participate in the grand final need to have played at least three minor round games.  

4. Scorers 

4.1 Each game will have at least two (2) umpires and two (2) score bench officials (one from each team). 

4.2 Each team will be required to supply a scorer for their game. If a team does not have a scorer and does not have a bench player to act as a scorer they will be required to sit a player off the court to act as the scorer and the opposition team will be awarded 5 points. 

5. First Possesion 

5.1 Rock, paper, scissors shall determine which team gets the first possession. 

6. Playing Time/Winner of Game 

6.1  The regular playing time shall be as follows: four (4) periods of 10 minutes playing time with a continuous clock. One minute break will be allowed for quarter time and three quarter time. Two minutes will be allowed for half time. Breaks will be timed by umpires.  

6.2 If the score is tied at the end of playing time in a regular season game, the game will be determined as a draw. If the score is tied at the end of playing time in a final a further two (2) periods of five (5) minutes will be played in each direction. Should scores still be tied, play will continue with no break until one team has a lead of two (2) goals. 

7. Forfeits 

7.1  A forfeit will be determined if a team does not have the required number of players or has not arrived more than 5 minutes after the scheduled match time. One goal will be given to the opposition for each minute that the team without enough players does not take the court.  

7.2 If a team does have the required amount of players after the five minutes, it is up to the discretion of the opposing team as to whether they want to play or not. 

7.3  A forfeit score will be recorded as 20-0. 

7.4 A forfeit fee will be applied to the team that does not take the court – this fee is $70 to cover the umpire costs. 

8. Fill Ins 

8.1  A fill in player can play two (2) games at no cost. Any subsequent games must be paid for individually on the website. Fill in players are advised to be a UniSA Sport member for insurance purposes (this is free to join for UniSA Students and Alumni and a fee of $25 for non-UniSA Students and Alumni).  

9. Substitutions 

9.1 Substitutions can only occur at breaks between playing periods unless replacing an injured player. 

9.2 No player may change position during a playing period unless replacing an injured player. 

9.3 If a player arrives late they must wait until after a goal has been scored and must enter before the next centre pass is taken.  


10. Uniforms 

10.1 All players are required to wear a team uniform consisting of the same coloured tops. 

10.2  A set of coloured bibs will be supplied by UniSA Sport to indicate playing positions. 


11. Umpires 

11.1 All players are to respect umpires and their decisions. Any arguments with umpires are cause to be asked to sit off for the rest of the quarter.  

11.2 Umpires have the right to send players off the court at any time for inappropriate language or behaviour. Players need to leave the court immediately if they are asked to. 

11.3 Failure to comply with an umpires warning and an umpires right to remove a player from the court may lead to further penalties and potentially, disqualification. 

 

12. Finals

12.1 Teams for finals will be determined nearer the end of the season, depending on the ladder.

12.2 To play in finals, each player must have played at least three (3) games throughout the season.
